With the demand for liquid or disinfecting soap soaring during this pandemic, now may be the perfect time to introduce soft water when you’re cleaning throughout your home.
For yourself, washing your hands with bar or liquid soap for 20 seconds remains the most effective way of preventing germs from spreading. Although there is an argument that liquid soap is better given that bar soap is shared with other people, studies have shown that bacteria doesn’t transfer to the next person. This means that you can use whatever soap you prefer, whether you are at home or as we resume our working lives, but just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly!
Many new washing machines and dishwashers have a sanitize-cycle option. Some consumers may not be aware of these cycles or know how they work. These cycles are the hottest temperatures available (140 – 150 degrees), meaning that they can kill germs and most viruses – Perfect to keep your family healthy during this pandemic and for those concerned about hygiene.
Bathrooms are being used all day now that your family are home most of the day. So clean touchpoints regularly such as light switches, doorknobs and faucets with soft water. Towels are also being used more frequently now, change them every few days, dish and hand towels every other day.
Remember, less is more when it comes to cleaning with soft water. With this virus, it’s only human to be over excessive as we continue to clean appliances with more cleaning chemicals. However, you can save yourself time and effort by using less soap and cleaning chemicals when you have soft water!
Toothbrushes can also spread germs. If anyone is sick, throw away their toothbrush/brush head for safety. If so, it would be a good idea to have some extra toothbrushes on hand. Clean them now before it’s too late, soak in a mixture of one ounce of 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with five ounces of soft water for 10 minutes. Throw the solution away and rinse with tap water.
